What is a digital printable file?
A digital printable file is a (JPG or PDF) file you can print yourself or have printed.
Digital printable files, whether instant download or custom emailed means you can print at your convenience, and as many times as you want! There are no shipping expenses, no worrying about anything getting damaged or lost in the mail. You can choose to print at a one hour photo center if you're in a hurry, print at home or even a professional photo lab. You can print any size within the same aspect ratio, and on the type of material you want, such as paper, poster board, canvas, metal, wood, etc. You can also create great photo gifts with your digital prints, add them to photo/scrap books, and share on social media!
Please give us credit for the design when sharing on social media.
Digital files are for personal use only. You are welcome to print it for yourself or as a gift, but you CAN NOT resell any part of it either in a digital or printed format.
Our digital files are NOT editable by the customer.
ABOUT THE TWO FILE TYPES
JPGs and PDFs are two types of files. Some print labs require one type or the other. Most use JPGs, which is why our shop chooses to send JPGs. However, if you need a PDF, it must be requested when the order is placed.
We sell digital JPG files two ways:
One as a customized or personalized file.
We also sell instant download files.
ONLY ABOUT INSTANT DOWNLOADS
Instant Download files are digital files that are delivered by Etsy and printed by the customer. You will receive exactly what is seen in the preview photo of the listing you purchased. In other words, our instant download files can NOT be customized or personalized.
No changes can be made since these files are pre-loaded into Etsy then sent directly to the customer from Etsy (not from our shop).
Download links will be sent from Etsy to the email address linked to the customer’s Etsy account as soon as the payment clears. No files will be emailed separately by our shop.

The difference in a custom/personalized PRINT YOUR OWN purchased file and an instant download file is we make changes to the custom digital file.
If you like one of our Instant Download printable files but want to make some changes to it then you will need to look in the ITEM DESCRIPTION to find the link to the custom order.
ALMOST ALL OF OUR INSTANT DOWNLOAD PURCHASES ARE ALSO SOLD AS A CUSTOM PURCHASE. THOSE COST A LITTLE MORE THAN THE INSTANT DOWNLOAD.
YOU MUST ORDER ONE PER EACH DIFFERENT DESIGN you need customized or personalized.
PRINT QUALITY INFORMATION
All of our files are high resolution and of high quality.
If yours is blurry/pixelated or you receive a warning message about low resolution the please see below:
CUSTOM/PERSONALIZED EMAILED PRINTS: make sure you DOWNLOAD the file. Do NOT right click on the photo to save the preview or your file will not be in high resolution. You MUST download the file to your computer and save the attachment as a downloaded file. You may even notice a download button at the top center or right of the screen after you click the name of your file.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD TO YOUR PHONE! The files are large and sometimes when saving to a phone, the phone converts it into a smaller file.
Your file should be 300DPI (sometimes PPI) in resolution. If you have anything lower than that, then you haven't saved the download attachment properly.
Never choose the fast option if you're given a choice of upload speeds when uploading. This will reduce the quality of the print. By default, the fast upload option is often selected, and you will need to change it.
All digital files or instant downloads that you plan to not print yourself at home should either be emailed to a print lab or saved to a thumb drive. These files should not be given to a print lab via a mobile device.
Are the colors off when printing? Please remember that a monitor (phone, tablet, computer, etc.) has the ability to show millions of colors while ink is limited to just show a small spectrum. Each monitor is also calibrated differently.
Files are normally deleted from my computer in 30 days to make room for new orders, so please download your file soon upon receiving it.
Please note slight color variations between computer monitors and sometimes between different printer settings are normal.
If your print lab is asking for a Print Release form before they will print your file then you will notice a print release form is sent with every digital order. If you were emailed a custom order then check the email you received with your order. The link to the Print Release should be at the bottom of the email. If you received a instant download then it would be one of the files you downloaded. A Print Release Form basically gives the buyer permission (a release) from our shop to print the images
provided. It does not include rights to edit or alter the image or sell them. That right remains with our shop.
What is "aspect ratio"?
Aspect ratio is the relationship between the width and height of a image.
It’s written as a figure in the form width:height.
Digital images can be resized without destorting them as long as the relationship between the width and height stays the same.
Here are a few examples:
5x7 = 7:5 aspect ratio
8x10 and 16x20 = 5:4 aspect ratio
24x36 & 20x30 = 3:2 aspect ratio
So if we send you a 16x20 digital file it can also be printed as an 8x10
What paper should I print on?
You can print your digital file just like you would a photograph on white photo paper or white cardstock. We mostly use luster finish for the products we print and ship. I suggest having it printed at a professional photo lab to ensure the best quality.

Any items other than an instant download will have proofs sent to the customer's Etsy inbox within the time frame you chose when checking out. Family trees and scrabble prints are sent in 4 business days (Monday-Friday) after we have received your information. Printing of your wall art will not begin until you have approved your proof.

EMAILED DIGITAL (You Print) – Emailed in whatever size you need in 1 business day after proof approval.
PRINTS 16x20 and SMALLER – Ships in 1 to 2 business days after proof approval. Normally takes 2 to 3 days in transit.
PRINTS 18x24 and LARGER – Ships in 2 to 3 business days after proof approval. Normally takes 5 to 7 days in transit.
FOAM MOUNTED PRINTS – Ships in 3 to 5 business days after proof approval. Normally take 5 to 7 days in transit.
GALLERY WRAPPED CANVAS – Ships in 5 to 7 business days after proof approval. Normally takes 5 days in transit.

If any of the customization or personalization info is not provided for an order and the customer has been contacted through Etsy Conversation with no repsonse, and 30 days has lapsed, the order will either be:
1) completed with any information that was provided

Most items will require you adding the personalization or answering the specified questions in a box before adding it to your cart.
If you do not see this personalization box, then once you've added the item to your cart, you will see a "note to seller" box on the checkout page. You can leave all your personalization in this box.
A 3rd option is sending the info in an Etsy message after you've made the purchase.
********Does our prints include the frame or matte?********
No, the frame or mat is not included when you purchase a print. However, if you would like to upgrade and have us frame & matte your print we offer some sizes here:

Please make sure you are ordering your print, canvas and mounts well in advance. Receiving your final product will depend on how quickly I receive all of your information and how fast your proof is approved. The Freckled Owl is not responsible for orders that do not arrive on time due to circumstances outside my control. No refunds/exchanges will be given for orders that do not arrive on time.

Items, whether printed or digital, are not eligible for refunds once the design process has started. We do NOT start anything until you have approved a proof.
ALL SALES ARE FINAL: Due to the personalization of items, returns and refunds are not available at this time. If a mistake is made on our part, we will be glad to exchange the item for you. If you approved a proof, then received the print and find a mistake after receiving it, there will be a charge to correct, reprint and ship out another order. PLEASE double check the proofs. We are human and do make mistakes. This is why we send proofs.
Please check each individual listings for production and shipping times, (during holiday seasons you will find deadline announcements). Every listing has a photo with detailed shipping times.
If USPS tracking shows no movement of the item for the last 30 days, please contact us or contact your local post office to resolve this issue.
DIGITAL, PRINTABLE, EMAILED (print your own) ITEMS:
Once you approve the design/proof and it has been sent to you, there is a $5 fee for any changes requested after it has been marked "shipped" and emailed to you.
If you receive your items damaged please send us photos of the item and the box/tube or packaging within 3 business days.
